The Benefits of Microneedling: Why This Skin Treatment Is Having a Moment

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, has become one of the most

popular minimally invasive skincare treatments worldwide. Using a device with tiny

sterile needles, the procedure creates controlled micro-injuries in the skin that trigger

the body's natural healing response. This leads to increased collagen and elastin

production — two key proteins that keep skin firm, smooth, and youthful.

Here are the main benefits that make microneedling worth considering:

1. Reduces Fine Lines and Wrinkles

As we age, collagen production naturally declines. Microneedling stimulates fresh

collagen growth, helping to soften the appearance of wrinkles, particularly around the

eyes, forehead, and mouth. Many people notice visibly firmer skin after a series of

treatments.

2. Improves Acne Scars and Skin Texture

One of microneedling's most impressive results is its ability to fade atrophic (indented)

acne scars. By breaking down old scar tissue and encouraging new cell turnover, it

smooths out rough texture and creates a more even skin surface.

3. Fades Hyperpigmentation and Sun Damage

Microneedling can help break up clusters of melanin that cause dark spots, melasma,

and sun damage. When combined with brightening serums (applied during or right

after treatment), results can be even more dramatic.

4. Minimizes Pores and Improves Tone

The treatment helps regulate oil production and tightens skin around pores, making

them appear smaller. Overall skin tone becomes more radiant and uniform.

5. Better Absorption of Skincare Products

Those tiny channels created during microneedling temporarily increase skin

permeability. This means your serums, hyaluronic acid, peptides, and growth factors.

Key Benefits Supported by Research:

• Reduces wrinkles and improves skin firmness: Multiple studies show significant

improvements in fine lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity. A systematic review concluded

that microneedling is a safe and effective option for wrinkles and scars.

• Treats acne scars and texture issues: It effectively improves atrophic acne scars

and overall skin texture. Systematic reviews support its use for scars, with good

results when used alone or combined with other therapies.

• High patient satisfaction with low risks: A meta-analysis of facial rejuvenation

treatments reported 83% patient satisfaction, with only minor, transient side effects

like temporary redness. Another review of over 1,000 patients confirmed

microneedling is relatively safe with minimal adverse effects.

Microneedling Treatments Explained

Microneedling treatments are recommended once per month. There may be a small amount of

redness after the treatment for a day or two. Results typically build over 3-6

sessions, with improvements lasting months to over a year with maintenance. Microneedling

also enhances absorption of topical serums and works well on stretch marks and body scars.

There are many serums such as the apple stem cell serum that aid in the process of eliminating

wrinkles and beautifying skin.

Microneedling vs. Botox: Benefits and Toxicity Concerns

Microneedling can be a healthy alternative to Botox (botulinum toxin) treatments which are like

playing Russian roulette with a deadly neurotoxin. Botox comes with a black box warning yet

that is rarely, if ever discussed, with the patient. Informed consent is a human right in medical

procedures and sadly Botox fails in this category. Everyone deserves to know the risks of

medical substances that are injected in the body and the downstream dangers of a medical

product.

The body’s immune system reacts differently according to its internal ecology. For example, a

patient may safely receive ten or so Botox injections, yet going into the last one their body is full

of inflammation and the last Botox treatment is the one that “breaks the camel’s back.” They

do not feel well afterward and then begin to develop strange symptoms. Possibly, toxins were

already built up in their system and then this last insult is too much for their system to handle.

Many of these patients, who are primarily women, go back to their doctors and ask for help.

They are ignored, shamed, gas-lit or told that they had a very rare allergic reaction and that that

there is nothing Western Medicine cand do to help for them.

• Results:

Botox offers quicker visible smoothing of expression lines (within days), but

effects last 3-4 months and require repeat injections. Microneedling provides more

gradual, cumulative improvements in skin health and static lines, with longer-lasting

structural benefits.

Safety profile:

Microneedling has an excellent safety record: mostly mild, short-term effects like

redness, swelling, or peeling that resolve quickly. Serious complications are rare

when performed properly.

Botox involves a potent neurotoxin:

While cosmetic doses are purported to be safe,

it carries a risk of the botulism toxin spreading throughout their body leading to serious issues

such as muscle weakness, difficulty swallowing (dysphagia), breathing problems, drooping

eyelids, or flu-like symptoms. In some cases, the neurotoxin spreads to organs and causes

paralysis, botulism-like symptoms and long-term disability.

Why a Licensed Acupuncturist Can Be an Excellent Practitioner

Licensed acupuncturists, such as myself, have received specialized training in microneedling,

facial diagnosis and cosmetic acupuncture training.

We bring valuable skills:

• Deep anatomical knowledge — Extensive training in facial anatomy, meridians, and

precise needle techniques reduce risks and improve outcomes.

• Holistic perspective — They often integrate microneedling with traditional Chinese

medicine principles for overall wellness, not just surface-level aesthetics.

• Sterile technique and safety focus — Acupuncture training emphasizes infection

control and patient safety, which transfers well to microneedling.

Beauty does not have to be dangerous or toxic, it can be a choice that we make every day to

honor our bodies and chose products and procedures that enhance our health!
